Why LiverPal

Calories aren't the whole story

With a liver condition, the numbers that matter are different. Too much salt can bring on fluid build-up. Too little protein can cost you muscle. Added sugar and saturated fat feed a fatty liver. LiverPal keeps all of them in view, every day.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is LiverPal?

LiverPal is a food diary and nutrition tracker for people with liver conditions, including cirrhosis, ascites, fatty liver disease (MASLD/NAFLD) and hepatitis. It tracks sodium, protein, added sugar, saturated fat, fiber, calories and fluids against daily targets set for your condition, grades each food as Liver-Friendly, Moderate or Use Caution, and creates PDF reports you can share with your doctor.

Is LiverPal free?

LiverPal is free to download on iPhone and Android, and the free version includes a limited number of AI photo scans and barcode scans. A premium subscription unlocks more scans, PDF doctor reports, recipe importing and premium recipes. Prices are shown in the app before you buy, and you can turn off auto-renewal at any time in your App Store or Google Play settings.

Which liver conditions does LiverPal support?

LiverPal has plans for cirrhosis and ascites, fatty liver disease (MASLD, formerly NAFLD), hepatitis recovery, nutrition after cutting back on alcohol, and general liver health. You can also set fully custom targets.

What sodium limit does LiverPal use for cirrhosis and ascites?

By default, 2,000 mg of sodium per day, in line with the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) 2021 guidance for people with ascites. If your doctor has given you a different limit, you can change it in the app. Read more about cirrhosis and diet.

How does the AI meal scanner work?

Take a photo of your meal and LiverPal's AI identifies the foods and estimates their nutrients. You can check and adjust the numbers before saving. Photo estimates are approximate, so for packaged foods, scanning the barcode gives the most precise numbers.

Can I share my food log with my doctor?

Yes. With a premium subscription, LiverPal creates a PDF report with your nutrient averages, a daily sodium chart and a detailed food log. You can print it or share it from your phone.

Is my health data private?

LiverPal does not sell your personal information. You can sign in with Apple or Google, or continue as a guest, and you can turn on Face ID to lock the app. Your food diary also works offline. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

Is LiverPal a substitute for my doctor or dietitian?

No. LiverPal is a tracking and education tool, not a medical device, and it does not diagnose or treat any condition. Always follow your care team's advice, especially if you have been given specific sodium, fluid or protein limits.

Is LiverPal available on Android?

Yes. LiverPal is available on the App Store for iPhone and on Google Play for Android.

Can caregivers use LiverPal?

Yes. You can use LiverPal to log meals for someone you care for, such as a parent or partner, and bring the PDF report to their appointments.
