LiverPal ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") is developed and operated by Allan Ryan, an individual developer based in California, USA. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application. Please read this policy carefully. By using LiverPal, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you create an account or use the App, we may collect the following:

  • Account Information: Your name, email address, and password used to create and manage your LiverPal account.
  • Health & Dietary Goals: Liver condition type (e.g., General Wellness, Fatty Liver, Cirrhosis, MASLD), daily nutrient targets for sodium, saturated fat, added sugar, fiber, and fluid intake goals you configure in the App.
  • Food Log Data: Meals, food items, portion sizes, and nutritional data you enter into your food diary, including entries created via manual input, recipe logging, barcode scanning, or voice/text quick-log features.
  • Generated Reports: PDF reports you generate summarizing your dietary tracking data.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and general diagnostic data to help us maintain and improve the App.
  • Usage Data: Features accessed, screens viewed, session duration, and interaction patterns within the App, collected in aggregate to improve user experience.

1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect precise geolocation data.
  • We do not collect biometric data.
  • We do not access your device camera roll, contacts, or microphone unless you explicitly initiate a feature that requires it (e.g., scanning a food barcode or food photo), and only for the duration of that action.

2. Third-Party Data Sources

The App retrieves nutritional information from the following third-party data sources to power food search, barcode scanning, and nutrient tracking features:

  • FatSecret Platform API: When you search for foods within the App, your search queries are sent to the FatSecret Platform API, which returns nutritional data for matching food items. FatSecret may process these queries in accordance with its own privacy policy, available at https://www.fatsecret.com/privacy-policy. No personally identifiable information is sent to FatSecret as part of these queries.
  • Open Food Facts: When you scan a barcode using the App, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts database to retrieve product and nutritional information. Open Food Facts is a free, open, collaborative food products database. Their terms of use and privacy information are available at https://world.openfoodfacts.org/terms-of-use. No personally identifiable information is sent to Open Food Facts as part of these queries.

We do not share your personal information, account data, food logs, or health goals with either of these third-party data providers.

3. Subscription & Payment Data

All subscription purchases are processed securely through Apple's App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card number, bank account details, or other financial payment information.

Subscription management and receipt validation are handled through RevenueCat, a third-party subscription management platform. RevenueCat processes anonymized transaction data, original transaction identifiers, and subscription status information provided by Apple. RevenueCat's privacy policy is available at https://www.revenuecat.com/privacy.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features, including food logging, nutrient tracking, barcode scanning, food search, recipe browsing, and PDF report generation.
  • To personalize your experience, including setting daily nutrient goals based on your selected liver condition profile.
  • To manage your account, process your subscription status, and provide customer support.
  • To improve the App through aggregated, de-identified usage analytics.
  • To communicate with you regarding account-related matters, updates, or responses to your inquiries.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: With third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App (e.g., RevenueCat for subscription management), subject to confidentiality obligations.
  • Nutritional Data Providers: Search queries and barcode numbers (not personal information) are sent to the FatSecret Platform API and Open Food Facts to retrieve food and nutritional data, as described in Section 2.
  • Legal Requirements: If required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
  • Protection of Rights: To enforce our Terms and Conditions, protect the safety and security of our users, or protect our legal rights.
  • Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified via prominent notice within the App of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your food log data, health goals, and account information are stored locally on your device and/or on secure cloud infrastructure. We implement commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the App's services. If you request deletion of your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal compliance, dispute resolution, or enforcement of our agreements.

8. Your Privacy Rights

8.1 All Users

Regardless of your location, you may:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Export your data (e.g., via the PDF report feature within the App).

8.2 California Residents — Your Rights Under the CCPA

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request that we disclose the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources from which that information is collected, the business purpose for collecting the information, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
  • Right to Delete: You have the right to request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions provided by law.
  • Right to Correct: You have the right to request that we correct inaccurate personal information that we maintain about you.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. Therefore, no opt-out mechanism is required. Should this practice ever change, we will update this policy and provide a clear opt-out mechanism.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA/CPRA rights. You will not receive different pricing, a different quality of service, or be denied access to the App for exercising your rights.

9. Children's Privacy

LiverPal is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Economic Area). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without verified parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. The App may contain links to third-party websites, services, or content that are not owned or controlled by us (e.g., FatSecret, Open Food Facts, Pexels for recipe images, Apple App Store). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you access through the App.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and, where appropriate, by providing additional notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
